I happened upon Doreen playing with a trombone player and tuba under an umbrella on a street corner in the French quarter on Oct 2, 2011. I wasn't expecting too much until she started playing. OMG! You are one of my very favorite New Orleans musicians. You were kind to bring me a paper towel when I was obviously perspiring so profusely as I listened to the wonderful music you and your band played for all of us that day.
When I was walking down the street a couple of blocks from where you normally play, I heard that distinctive sound and said immediately "That's Doreen Ketchens!" I heard you then, as well as in November of this past year, and then again this year in early June. You are a remarkable musician, both clarinetist and singer.
